Cwm Glas has a very successful school choir. Mrs Mills conducts and Mrs Griffiths accompanies on the piano. The members are chosen from the juniors and range from year 3 to year 6. There are approximately 70 members at present. Choir is held on a Monday morning and the children rehearse a selection of songs for an hour each week. The choir have a difficult task when they are required to learn many songs for the shows that are organised twice yearly. The choir have had the opportunity to perform in a many different venues including the Grand Theatre and the Brangwyn Hall. They have also featured on the Des and Mel daytime TV programme. We have high hopes for the choir once again this year and have decided to take part in a competition arranged by the Welsh TV channel S4C. Click to see the Choir

The violin group are usually chosen from year 5. We have a keen group of violinists at present who are taught by Mrs Roblyn. There are seven school violins which are currently in use and another two members of the group have purchased their own violins. Mrs Roblyn attends the school on a Thursday afternoon and teaches the children for an hour. The violins always play in the foyer to greet parents to the Christmas concerts. They play a selection of Christmas songs which always adds festive cheer to the occasion. The children have played in many school events including whole school assemblies and St. David’s Day concerts.

Guitar group takes place on a Wednesday afternoon straight after school and finishes at 4.10pm. Mrs Griffiths and Mr Jenkins are involved in teaching the children. We have at present eight children in the group. They are enthusiastic guitarists and put lots of effort into practising, especially before important events. The group very recently accompanied children from class 5 when they performed in the Summer Serenade concert organised by NAPE. The group are encouraged to play in whole school assemblies. The best thing about guitar group is the reward of a lollipop at the end of each lesson. We often sneak into Mr Osborne’s room when he’s not looking to get them!
