Last year the children decided that they would like to set up an Environment in the school. The group was made up of pupils from all the Junior classes.
Among the projects the children chose to concentrate on were a scheme to improve the grounds of the school. They decided that they would like to see some flowers and trees planted in the grounds and surveyed the children to discover which areas they would like to see planted.
Environment club also worked very hard on keeping the outside areas of the school free from litter and were featured in the Evening Post.
The club entered a competition last year and made a promise tree. They organised for all the children in the school, along with their families and the staff, to make pledges to help look after the environment. Unfortunately we did not win a prize but everyone enjoyed taking part.
Environment club this year aims to be successful in raising awareness of environmental issues around the school. The children are looking into various projects that they can undertake and are full of enthusiasm and good ideas. They are also looking for ways to obtain funding for their projects.
The school has appointed two Environment Captains this year, and we wish them all the best for the coming year.
Environment Club meets every Friday at lunchtime.
