Eco Captains

Our Eco Captains had a fantastic time at the National Botanic Gardens on Wednesday 11th June.

Cwm Glas Primary have achieved their first Bronze award for the Swansea Sustainable Schools Scheme!

The Eco Captains had a fantastic, fun-packed day at the gardens and were very pleased to be presented with their award!

*Cwm Glas Recycling Project 2014*

Since December, we have been collecting in 2 litre plastic bottles in order to design and build our new eco-friendly plastic bottle greenhouse.

With the fantastic support from all of our pupils, parents and staff, we were able to collect over 1500 bottles in preparation for our build.

Our Eco Captains have done a marvellous job sorting the bottles each day as they piled in through our doors. Our Eco Club has been running for the past 8-10 weeks where yr 5-6 children, including some of our Eco Captains have worked extremely hard washing out the bottles and cutting the bottoms off, ready to be used.

It is fantastic to see the children taking so much responsibility for our new project and putting in their own time and effort after school.

During the Easter holidays, our project has been completed. Our new plastic bottle greenhouse is built and it is ready for Gardening Club to start growing their plants and vegetables.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our pupils, parents, staff and also the companies involved in donating us different materials. We couldn't have done it without you!

The Evening Post are coming in to school on Tuesday 29th April to take a photo of all of the children who took part in our Eco Club with our new greenhouse.Ty Gwydr Cwm Glas!

Under Milk Wood

Take a look at the fantastic project our year 3/4 English set have been working on over the past few weeks. They had to give their own perception of Winch Wen, write a script based on what they thought, record themselves using various tones of voice and then create shadow puppets to represent their characters. So many skills have been used and developed in the project.

They have done Cwm Glas proud and I'm sure you'll agree when you see their work. Click on the link below;

Creating Computer Games

The children have been learning to create computer games.  This is the first step in learning computer programming, which is something the Welsh Government is keen to promote among the young generation.

Here are some of the games that our Foundation Phase children created this week.

Class 1 ~ Reception Class 2 ~ Year 1 Class 3 ~ Year 1/2 Class 4 ~ Year 2
Alesha and Mason created this game which is based on their class theme of clothes. Rhys and Cory used their theme of clothes to create their game.  They have used sound to show when a pair is matched. Julia and Kinga created a game using their class theme of toys.  They have used sound for both a correct match and an incorrect match. Nathan used the toy theme to create his game but has used sound as well as a splash screen to give instructions to the player.

Nurture Provision
We are very proud of our new Nurture Provision (Cwts Cwm Glas) which we have just developed.

A nurture group is a small, discrete class which provides a safe, caring and

structured environment where identified children can develop their language and communications skills whilst addressing any barriers to learning that they may be experiencing, linked to social, emotional and / or challenging behaviour. Read more

We also took part in 1000 voices concert in aid of Children In Need. Once again our children were a credit to our school and their parents, and took part in a performance to be proud of.
